OCTOBER 12: ORIENTATION & HERITAGE. BEGINNING AT 8 A.M. SHARP.
You will begin with innovative team building exercises designed to introduce you to your fellow classmates. Then both new and established Ypsilanti area residents will discover new things about the
community in which they live and work through a bus tour and networking opportunities.
NOVEMBER 9: APPLIED LEADERSHIP. BEGINNING AT 8 A.M. SHARP.
Combine your newly found knowledge about Ypsilanti with leadership skills you need to become an
active player in making your community a better place to live and conduct business. A class project
will be introduced that will leave your graduation class with its own legacy.
DECEMBER 14: LAW ENFORCEMENT & JUSTICE. BEGINNING AT 8 A.M. SHARP.
Meet the people who protect our neighborhoods and discover first-hand the situations they encounter
through ride-alongs and court proceedings. Follow the criminal process through the courts and tour
correctional facilities to experience the full spectrum of law and justice.
JANUARY 11: HEALTH CARE. BEGINNING AT 8 A.M. SHARP.
Discover the challenges local health care facilities face; how they collaborate with community organizations to provide preventive and acute health care; and how health care reform has changed local affiliations. Hospital tours will introduce you to expanded health care facilities and new medical technology.
FEBRUARY 8: BUSINESS & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. BEGINNING AT 8 A.M.
Explore what makes Ypsilanti an attractive place for new and existing businesses. Interactive teams will
discuss downtown revitalization and how local organizations work together to improve Ypsilanti’s image
and encourage economic development.
MARCH 8: GOVERNMENT. BEGINNING AT 8 A.M. SHARP.
You will discuss citizen power and how you can influence governmental decisions. You will be put in
the shoes of the decision maker so you can understand their role and perspective. Attend local government meetings and see how the leaders address current issues.
APRIL 12: EDUCATION & GRADUATION. BEGINNING AT 8 A.M. SHARP.
Discover the innovative ways our children are taught in the public K-12 system as well as alternative
public education opportunities. School tours will enable you to witness the challenges and successes
administrators and teachers face. In addition, you will have your own graduation celebration!
