CBC/CDC Focuses on Downtown Interests

Purpose of the CBC

The Central Business Community (CBC) exists to represent the interests of merchants, landlords, and residents and to promote a healthy vibrant downtown. This is an advocacy group which communicates closely with the City Council, DDA, Chamber, COPAC, and other groups which to make sure our voice is heard. The CBC has valued support from the Chamber and the DDA. The CBC is building momentum just at the time when important business and residential projects are nearing completion.

The 2005 goals of the CBC

CBC goals for 2005 focus on ways to increase shopping traffic in the downtown and include:

• Extensive advertising for businesses and the downtown as a whole.
• Creating a downtown web presence and the downtown and developing links to other sites.
• Sponsoring Discover Downtown events.
• Developing an annual Music Festival.
• Participating in the "Ypsilanti Pride" clean up day.
• Developing an outdoor games event in Frog Island Park.
• Extensive downtown map and brochure.

Why the Michigan Main Street Designation is good for Ypsilanti

The Michigan Main Street Program desires Michigan's downtowns, big and small, to revitalize and to grow into thriving traditional centers of commerce for people and business. These healthy and vibrant downtowns and neighborhood centers are part of a larger strategy to retain and attract young people, professionals and high tech companies to the State of Michigan. The goal of the Michigan Main Street Program is to create the top Main Street Porgram in the country. This will be accompanied by providing the critical technical assistance, central training support, and networking opportunities for its Main Street communities utilizing the four-point approach (organization, promotion, design, and economic revitalization), relying on key partnerships, and devising unique alternatives.

What can I do to help?

Get involved! The CBC needs to raise $20,000 to prove the willingness of the Ypsilanti community to actively participate in this program. Become a member of teh Central Business Community today and begin to show Michigan how proud we are to be a Main Street! Meetings

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in room 211 of EMU's College of Business, Gary Owens Building. Everyone welcome.
