Business Visitation Programs
The purpose of these programs is to prepare our youth for participation in the
workforce. These programs will be encouraged through a training workshop and
follow-up consultations for Chamber members interested in implementing a
business-visitation program for local students: company tours, job shadowing or
internships.
Ypsilanti PRIDE
First Ypsilanti PRIDE day conducted May 1996. The purpose of this civic program
is to increase the functional and aesthetic values of the community. A program
that resulted from a project-idea of the Leadership Ypsilanti class of 1995. It
is a one-day clean-up project that brings together a couple thousand
individuals in a spirit of community. The schools have used it as an example of
how students can and should be proud of their community and shows them a way of
making an impact.

First program year began November 1992. This program introduces in detail the
different facets of the community (education, government, economic development,
health care, etc.) and prepares the 30 or so participants to become leaders
within the Ypsilanti community. Participants are also expected to design a
project at the end of the program that will positively impact the community.

Business-Education Honor Roll

appreciation of the importance of business people working hand-in-hand with
your educational community toward a better understanding of that community.
This program recognizes Chamber members that have formed at least one of the
following business-education partnerships: (1) release employees with pay for a
minimum of 8-hours per year to volunteer in the K-12 schools and/or participate
in the various school-to-work programs available. (2) host students in their
company through a job shadowing or internship program. (3) contribute cash or
in-kind supplies to K-12 schools.

E3 Award Program
The purpose of this program is to promote business and community growth and
development by promoting educational programs designed to strengthen and expand
the skill level and income potential of all within the Ypsilanti area. This
program recognizes educational programs and/or educators in the local K-12
schools (Lincoln, Willow Run and Ypsilanti) that deserve to be emulated in
other K-12 schools.

Future Force
The purpose of this program is to allow families-students and their parents-to
see and understand the changing nature of the world of work. Well-paying
high-tech and skilled-trade jobs are abundant and available, but the education
requirements diverge from that of a typical four-year bachelor degree.
Traditional professional careers such as accounting, business, law, and
education will round out the spectrum of occupations presented to students and
their families. The bottom line is if students can see their options, from A-Z,
they can plan their high school years accordingly and move on to successful
careers in the workforce.

Boards of Education Programs
The purpose of these programs is to create a better understanding and
appreciation of the importance of business people working hand-in-hand with
your educational community toward a better understanding of that community. The
Candidate Training School is a joint effort of the Public Policy Division of
the Chamber and the Education Division to help prepare and encourage
business-oriented individuals to run for school board seats and other political
offices.
Industry-in-Education Panels
The purpose of these programs is to prepare our youth for participation in the
workforce. Separate panels for each of the three school districts were formed
as a result of research done through the Community Education Partnership
(includes the Chamber, Visteon, Minority Business Owners and the schools) to
educate high schools students on the employability skills employers expect
graduating students to possess.
Solicit and Administer Funds
The purpose is to support the following educational activities that the Chamber
membership has deemed important. This fundraising includes a solicitation
mailing to the membership, applications to private foundations and press
coverage in the local media. A Director of Education will be hired to take over
these activities.
